You do not have to install both plates. The statute clearly states that a plate only needs to be displayed in the rear of the vehicle.

fwiw, my dad has two plates for his 'cuda, but only has the rear mounted. The second is for workbench decor. And the statute says you may run one or two, not that you must run the number you ordered. I wish I'd ordered two when I got mine, but oh well.
