Chrome/Spyder Tuning

Post by mjannusch » Sun Sep 21, 2014 9:39 pm

I've been doing some work on the Spyder lately, and finally got some decent results out of it. I threw in a set of 1050cc injectors, a Walbro 416 E85 pump, filled the tank with E85 and made some pulls. I was getting really bad spark blowout above 15 psi, so I replaced the coils, installed an HKS DLI, and swapped out the plugs for non-projected BCR8ES plugs.

Got it running about 18 psi now using the ECU for boost control, and have been leaning the fuel out today. I'm trying to get towards 12.2:1 for the E85, but going slowly with the Chrome tuning to make sure I don't overshoot my mark. Still pretty rich around 11.1 above 5500 rpm, but getting dialed in. When I started out this morning, it was around 10.0:1.

This pull was on a stretch with a slight incline near my house, but the chart should be pretty close and low if anything. 469 whp and 463 ft/lbs isn't too shabby for just getting started with the E85. I'm thinking I'll end up somewhere around 22 psi once everything is dialed in, which should put it around +60 whp so around 530 awhp which is just about where it looked to be on my quickest passes on C16 up at BIR.

Winter stuff: Swap to my fully-forged 4-bolt spare motor (current motor has forged pistons, but stock rods), Swap out TD05 adapter plates for the full IPS TD05 headers, better downpipe, high-flow cat, swap out the Borla exhaust for my Tanabe Blue, degree the cams, rebuild my TD05-14Bs, etc.

There's a guy on 3Si who says he's going after my Spyder 1/4 mile record ([email protected]), so I figure if he starts getting close then I might have to bump it a little quicker... ;-) I think the car should be able to do it pretty easily now. The tune is a lot more solid than it was on the old AEM tune - a lot more low-end torque than there was on that setup.

So, I'm not out of the scene yet - just been really busy over the past few years.

Anyone who's looking for parts, I still have a lot on the drag project car available.

Looks like a really good plan. Can't wait to see some more updates!
