Pearl paint rust repair

Post by Jamal » Wed May 18, 2016 6:42 am

Anyone know a local paint shop or guy that specializes in matching pearl paint (a.k.a. three stage paint jobs)? I have some rust developing around wheel wells.

I don't know of any shops that specialize in pearl paint, but any good body shop should be able to do the work. I used Auto Rec in Elk River last Fall and was very happy with them: http://www.autorepairelkriver.com/

Thanks for the tip! From my limited research on the topic, it seems spot repairing & blending pearl paint is one of the most difficult/impossible tasks in all of automotive painting.

Lat42 mudflaps might have prevented this issue from happening altogether. I highly suggest people run those especially with all the road debris here in MN. So if anyone knows an expert specifically with pearl / three stage paint jobs, local or non-local, let me know.

Years ago we had some paint work done under insurance on Stacy's 95 3000GT. It was a pearl white. It turned out fine. It is for sure harder than regular paint. But if a shop isn't confident with doing it, you've picked the wrong shop.

Lamettry's in Maplewood was able to match the white diamond 3-stage pearl on my Avalanche perfectly. They've always done good work for me, and my Spyder will be going to them to match the new front bumper to the white pearl on the car. They won't be cheap, but they'll do it right.
