I'm not saying the Bel Vector 995 is bad either, but it isn't upgradeable for reasonable price like the V1 is. The 4 other Vector units don't have Ku band, so they will all be obsolete in a few years and then you have to buy a whole new unit at full price (or maybe get an $80 credit depending on whether or not Beltronics is running their trade-in program at the time). That's the drawback - technology isn't updated in other units, where with the V1 you get to preserve more than half your investment (generally). I haven't updated mine yet, and it still can detect everything out there... If I wanted to update to the slightly better laser receivers and slightly thinner case, it will only cost me $130 and I get a brand new unit.

if you buy a vector from circuit city and get their protection plan and it "breaks" they'll just replace it with the brand new one, beauty thing is we don't check it

I guess if your level of morality is low enough, that's an option.

If you place your radar detector on the bottom left hand side of the window, the cops somtimes dont even notice it and it's not obsturcting your view of the road. So they really cant give you a ticket for it.

Also, they did a study on police detectors, I forgot where i read it, but they put a Stealth bomber plane next to a regular SUV and the had them both moving at 60 mph. Well 99% of the time the radar would pick up the suv. I couldent belive this at first since the bomber plane would be 10 times or more than the size of the suv but the lasers that cops use, dectect lines on the vehecles. Since our cars are very smooth and have hardly any lines, that saves our ass most of the time when cops use the radar. They keep on picking up other cars around us. :D

Well, I'll make a comment aimed directly at the department store radar detectors (e.g. Bel, Whistler, Uniden, etc..).

Is it wise to buy a radar detector from the same company that makes the radar guns? Yes....that's right, those same companies are the ones making the guns for the cops. Where do you think they're more concerned about a quality product??? I'll give you a hint, it isn't for you!

Yes, the V1 is expensive. It's for good reason. If you're OK buying thrift store condoms, then by all means buy a Bel. You might get luckly a few times, but eventually you'll get caught with your hand in the cookie jar.

All of the reviews I've read place the Bel slightly behind the V1, I'm not gonna argue and say that the Bel is better, all I'm saying is that the V1 isn't that much better

and lmfao at the thrift store condom comment

Escort Passport 8500 X50

I used to have the regular 8500 but I figured for the way I drive I'd better get the x50.

Its hands down the best. It outperforms the V1 in all the tests I've read

The Escort magically performs better in magazines where they have the big full-page ads.

I can't recall it ever being third. Its either this or the V1 in first or second usually.

It outperforms the rest from where i've read. The only advantahe to the v1 is the arrows

The arrows helped me just last night... Intermittent warnings of medium strength from behind, so I slowed down and got in the middle lane of 3 and went a bit over the speed limit. About 3 minutes later, a state trooper went by on the left and tagged one of the cars that went past me. Without the arrows, I probably would've just ignored it after a little while.

The other nice thing is the bogey counter that shows how many radar sources there are, so in high background radar areas you get familiar with how many fixed sources there are, so when another one appears that isn't normally there, you can slow down.
