Here are some pics and video from the Ohio Governor's Cup Regatta that I went to this weekend. It was held on a lake about 30 min south of Lima. This was the first powerboat race I've been to, and it was awesome! I can't wait until they have another race there!
The classes of boats that ran ranged ranged from 1.0L engines to 6.0L engines (chevy big block V8 ). The 6.0L boats can go up to 150 mph. They were also doing an exhibition of the U7 Formulaboats.com #2 race boat, which is an unlimited hydroplane, the kind of boats you would see in the bigger races on TV. The boat has 2600 hp, and is capable of going over 200mph. Unfortunately they don't have any races with those kinds of boats at that lake.
Anyways, here are some pics. Most of my shots of the races turned out crappy, (my camera sucks with long distance shots... 3x zoom FTL ) but a few turned out semi-OK.
This is the U7 that was doing exhibition runs. It weighs 6000lbs and has a 2600hp Turbine engine from a CH-47 Chinook helicopter.
They used huge cranes to lift the boats on and off of the water
Couple nice cars sitting in the pits
Iv'e got a bunch more pics here: http://rides.webshots.com/album/553574206MeYaqf
And for now for some video. I applogize for the quality, they were taken with my digicam.
