there's like 1 "member" a week that is a spammer. this one is just more prolific. (see also: email verification to join; using those little cryptic phrases you have to enter to join)

Well, that was fun. The f*cker had replied to like 15 posts with that dumb J-lo link. I think I have them all deleted now.
We probably average one or two spam ids a day. Most of them don't actually post. I have a huge number of e-mail ids banned and that prevents a lot of them from signing up, but it doesn't filter all of them out.
When a user signs up, they have to type in the crooked letter/number scheme, but these spam bots have that figured out too.
We do better than w3si.org. They get like 20 spam ids a day. Oh well....

If you have the ability to ban certain e-mail addresses from signing up, you can add these to your list:
In the phpBB software you can ban e-mail addresses from signing up. By using these wildcard e-mails, its cut down on the spambots by quite a bit. Just not completely.

Do you have email validation turned on too? I know I still get a couple that sneak threw on EvoMN but it helps a lot. I have to delete a lot of fake accounts but only 1 out of 10 activates the account and makes posts.

I should have been more clear, I used to have 5-6 spammers a day. The email validation and approval by the admins cut it down big time.
